2019 Mazda CX-5 launching in Malaysia soon – 2.5L turbo variant confirmed; order books open tomorrow

For those who have been waiting for the Mazda CX-5 to be offered with a turbocharged petrol engine in Malaysia, good news! Bermaz has announced that the 2019 model will be launched very soon, and you can start placing your orders starting from tomorrow.

Specific details aren’t out yet, but Bermaz did confirm the new variant would be equipped with a SkyActiv-G 2.5 litre turbo four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. Referring to the Japan-spec version, the engine should serve up 230 PS at 4,250 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, with a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic being the most likely transmission pairing.

Aside from the addition of a turbo variant, the rest of the 2019 CX-5 line-up should be updated with new features as well. Using Japan as a reference point again, these will likely include a digital instrument cluster (like that in the latest Mazda 3), new climate control switchgear, a windscreen-projected head-up display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support and many more.

The second-generation CX-5 was first introduced here back in October 2017, and was offered with two naturally-aspirated SkyActiv-G petrol engines (in 2.0 and 2.5 litre capacities) as well as a sole SkyActiv-D diesel 2.2 litre powerplant. The SUV was given a slight update a year later with the addition of an electric powered tailgate on selected variants.

Interested parties can head on over to Sunway Pyramid to check out the SUV in person, along with other models, as there will be a Mazda roadshow taking place there from September 4 to 9, 2019. Excited yet?
