2021 MotoGP: Malaysian Damok makes Moto3 debut

After Malaysian racer Adam Norrodin getting a tryout with Petronas Sepang Racing Team (SRT) in the Moto2 class, it’s now the turn of 19-year old Syarifuddin Azman, popularly known as “Damok”. Damok will be competing in the Moto3 class at Grand Prix of Aragon in Spain this weekend, taking the seat vacated by John McPhee, who moves up to the Moto2 class.

Following the recent shakeup in rider lineups following Maverick Vinales leaving the Yamaha factory team and joining Aprilia mid-season, breaking his contract, plus SRT’s Franco Morbidelli sidelined for recovery after surgery, riders have been shuffling around the paddock.

For the Aragon race, SRT Moto2 rider Jake Dixon will compete in the MotoGP round alongside Valentino Rossi, after making his MotoGP debut at Silverstone a fortnight ago. As for Damok, who currently competes in the FIM CEV Moto3 championship for SIC Racing Monlau Motorsports, a win last June in Barcelona was seen as a confidence bolster and indication of potential for the young rider from Selangor.
