Tenaga Nasional plans to install 100 new EV charging stations by year-end with GreenTech Malaysia

Tenaga Nasional (TNB) plans to install up to 100 new charging stations for electric (and plug-in hybrid vehicles), which will have an investment value of RM1.5 million, as reported by Bernama.

The company aims to deploys these chargers by the end of the year, and will do so through its wholly-owned subsidiary TNB Energy Services (TNBES) as well as partner Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (MGTC).

According to TNBES managing director Ahmad Jaafar Abd Hamid, 14 new ChargEV stations have installed to date, with another 35 potential sites pending the approval to proceed by the premises’ owners. Referring to ChargEV’s official website, there are currently 271 public EV charging stations spread across 195 locations in Malaysia.

“TNBES and MGTC are aggressively pursuing major parking operators, mall owners and hotel chains to extend the ChargEV station network in major cities in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru,” said Ahmad Jaafar at the 10th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibitions & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2019) recently.

He added that TNBES is currently finalising the second phase of its collaboration with MGTC by forming a special-purpose vehicle company – Tenaga E Mobility Solutions – to expand the potential of the EV charging business and other businesses related to smart mobility in the country.
