Honda Malaysia maintains second spot in overall TIV for 1H 2019 – over 44,200 cars sold, City is best seller

Honda Malaysia has announced its numbers for the first half of 2019, recording a total sales of more than 44,200 units, with May being the highest at 10,500 vehicles. Based on internal figures, the company claims to maintain its position at the top of the non-national segment. Its year-to-date total industry volume (TIV) stands at 15.3%, putting it in second place overall.

To break down those figures, the biggest sales contributor is the City. It’s apparently the most sought-after B-segment model in the country, contributing 34% (or around 15,000 units) to the overall sales.

Behind that is the HR-V, achieving 20% of total sales, followed by the CR-V with 14%. Honda Malaysia claims that the Jazz, City, Civic, HR-V, CR-V, and BR-V continue to lead in their respective non-national segments (as of May 2019), so much so that the wait list for all Honda models is between one to two months.

Company managing director and CEO, Toichi Ishiyama said: I want to take this opportunity to thank all Malaysians for their continuous support and trust in the Honda brand. The first half of 2019 has been challenging but encouraging for us. The Civic reached a milestone of 130,000 units sold while the Jazz delivered the 100,000th unit to its owner.”

“It is truly inspiring for us to see how these two models have become a favourite among Malaysians and we are hoping to achieve more milestones this year. Honda will continue to offer products which are of good quality and advanced technologies as we strive to deliver the best for Malaysians and share the joy of owning a Honda to all our customers,” he added.

Honda Malaysia’s newly appointed COO, Sarly Adle Sarkum said: “It has been a very exciting few weeks for me since I took office. I am impressed with the strong commitment and dedication of the team to bring Honda to greater heights in Malaysia. This has given me the confidence that we are able to take on the challenge to push our sales even further. We would like to thank all our customers for supporting our brand.”
